KUBU
Just 10 mns North from Tulamben lies the village of Kubu, where fish farming and salt making used to be the main activities.
Today thanks to diving, the village develops new activities.
Two interesting dive sites not to be missed:
THE BOGA WRECK
Type: wreck, photography, deep
Minimum level: advanced, level 2
Depth: 18 to 40 m
Current: none to medium
Visibility: 10 to 20 m
Access: shore dive
Remarks: from pebbles (beach) to a dark volcanic sand slope
Built in 1953 in The Netherlands, the Indonesian government used this vessel for its maritime communications.
With its 150 tons and 40 meters long, the Boga was deliberately sunk in 2012 to serve as an artificial reef.
The shipwreck is located 25 meters from a black rocks volcanic beach and lies between 18 and 38 meters depth with its bow facing the shore and the propeller towards the depths.
It is therefore reserved for experienced divers (minimum PADI Advanced, level 2).
The shipwreck stands straight and its silhouette is complete, neat and intact.
Even though it is still little colonized by corals and gorgonians, the setting and the « freight » of Boga wreck make this dive very enjoyable : old military Jeep, statues of Buddha, lockerss filled with bottles, passages between the lower and upper decks …
Fauna: humphead napoleon wrasses, morey eel, reef sharks, humphead parrotfishes, nudibranchs, eagle rays, triggerfishes, lionfishes, batfishes, turtle, barracudas, blue spotted stingrays.
